We all received an e-mail from the school this past week regarding the WiFi situation at Bronx Science. Many of you who remember the efforts we made last year to increase the school’s bandwidth may have been confused about the message, and we want to clarify what is going on. At the start of the school year, we notified you that the DOE had substantially increased the bandwidth at Bronx Science. We quadrupled our speed from 50 mbps to 200 mbps (a nice improvement, but still not where we need to be). However…with greater access came greater use by our students, and the problem of slow connectivity during instruction has returned. The DOE continues to work on the issue, and they have told us that we can expect speeds of 500 mbps (10 times last year’s speed) for next school year. Some of you have suggested buying private internet access, which has been discussed with the DOE. This is an avenue the school will continue to pursue, however any additional Internet connection will need to be integrated into the network that the NYC DOE owns.
