We were delighted to have a robust turnout in person and online for Thursday’s “Meet the Teachers” panel at last week’s PA meeting. The insight provided about pedagogy at BxSci, the value of parental involvement, the consistent emphasis placed on kids getting sleep—along with simply getting to know these half-dozen talented, dedicated and inspiring educators—was remarkable. For those of you who weren’t able to make the meeting, a recording is available here.
Please mark your calendars. Our next virtual PA meeting will be Wednesday, May 18th at 7:00pm and will feature: a) PA Executive Board and SLT elections (see our uncontested slate and nominee bios below); and b) a State of the School Address by Principal Rachel Hoyle and AP Andrew Nasser.
The PA extends its sincere thanks from left to right to moderator AP Andrew Nasser, Colin Morrell (AP Physical Science), Kim Brooks (English), Todd Davis (Social Studies), Dan Licardo (English), Christine Arcidiacono (Latin and French), and Jen Pedraza (Math)
Note: The Online Auction is live! See details below. The in-person Gala, meanwhile, is just around the corner on May 12th—and it’s sold out! Thank you for your support.
We’re thrilled to announce two community events coming up soon. First, join Bronx Science families, friends and staff as we return en masse for our first Night Out at Yankee Stadium since 2019 on June 2nd. Discounted tickets (all in Section 234) can be purchased on Eventbrite here now.
Next up, we want to invite all Bronx Science families to an end-of-year social at Ellington in the Park (lower level at the amphitheater style seating/stairs) at approximately W. 105th St in Riverside Park, Manhattan on Sunday, June 5th. More details to follow.
Speaking of detail, we are looking for a parent volunteer who has artistic ability and experience with graphic design to develop logos for our Senior Toolkit for the Class of ’22. Interested and available? Please contact us at president@bxsciencepa.org
Finally, we got another sobering reminder Thursday night about how easily whatever sense of security we have constructed for ourselves and our loved ones can be shattered. We share your frustrations and concerns over this latest incident, but seek to reassure you that the institutions designed to protect us all went to work swiftly and remain vigilantly attentive to any potential threats.
For those interested in more information about the alarming rise of teen anxiety and depression, we suggest either or both of the following articles from The Atlantic and The New York Times.
